Mission Impossible 7’s Domestic Run Hits Another Disappointing Low, Leaving Box Office in the Shadows

Date:

Tom Cruise’s career took a hit with the release of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which became one of the biggest flops of 2023 at the domestic box office, following his successful film Top Gun: Maverick in 2022. It has been 27 years since Cruise first played Ethan Hunt in the 1996 film directed by Brian De Palma, and the franchise has since become one of the most popular action and espionage sagas in cinema history.

Mission: Impossible has consistently performed well at the box office, but the latest installment has not reached the same level of success as the previous films. According to Collider, the movie directed by Christopher McQuarrie is projected to earn a total of $172 million dollars domestically, making it the second lowest-grossing film in the franchise, behind only Mission: Impossible III, which earned $134 million dollars.

Despite the underwhelming numbers, Mission: Impossible 7 has earned $566.2 million worldwide against a budget of $291 million. While it may not be a blockbuster, it is not a complete failure either. One of the challenges the film faced was tough competition from other movies like Barbie and Oppenheimer, which have emerged as major successes this year.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is the first chapter of a larger story that will conclude in June 2024 with Dead Reckoning Part Two, also directed by McQuarrie.
